Sew Long Summer Blog Tour

Signing up for the Sew Long Summer Blog tour was one of the smartest decisions I made this summer! Not only did I take a step back from all the pattern testing, but I also gotto sew for myself, A LOT. ‘Sew long Summer’ for me is actually ‘So long raggedy clothes!’ No seriously I have been wearing nothing but rags all summer mostly ’cause I have no nice clothes to wear at home and I am too stubborn to buy clothes when I can make them.

So this tour has helped me make clothes for myself, just regular everyday comfortable knit tops for me to wear! Another goal I’d set for myself was to sew from my pattern and fabric stash, and I am happy to say I was successful! Also, I am not affiliated to any of the patterns I used, I just really like them and how they fit me 🙂

This is the Lane Raglan from Hey June patterns in sixe XS. I made no adjustments to it, though I clearly should have shortened it. I have had this pattern for over a year and only now got around to making it. I am glad I did, this tee comes together in less than an hour from cutting to hemming. What can I possibly say about this pattern that hasn’t already been said before, I love it!!!

This is the first and only raglan sleeve tee pattern I’ve ever made. I found the fit and design of this pattern very flattering. The blue cotton spandex fabric is from Hancocks and the fabric for sleeves is from JoAnns, that I had purchased last year to make leggings for my girl.

One, the Lane raglan is super quick to make and two, it is super comfortable to wear! so I quickly made another lane raglan exactly like the first one 🙂 and this is my new favorite top!

The grey knit is a remarkably soft and drapey spandex knit from Fine Fabrics Atlanta, and the floral is a cotton jersey that I got as part of my Girl Charlee Knit Fix last year. I used it for several projects here, here and here and still have some left.

This is the Seafarer top by Sew Much Ado made in size XS with no adjustments. I am calling this my wearable muslin ’cause my husband hates the busy print on the fabric!?! This fabric was also from my Girl Charlee Knit Fix.

I love Dolman tees both for sewing and wearing, and own a fair share of dolman patterns and tops but I have wanted to try the Seafarer for a long time now, because the pattern is a little more fitted than most. With this, I believe I found my perfect Dolman!

I promise, I shortened the pattern after I made this! I wonder why I don’t shorten patterns right after assembling them, I mean at 5 feet tall, its not like I ever run the risk of a top/dress being too short right?!?

Seafarer in size xs, shortened length by 1.5″ reduced sleeve length by 3/8″ and color blocked! I drew a line at about 2″ from the center front and slightly curved it downwards to under the arm, and cut on the line, and added seam allowance to these two pieces for the color blocking.  I love this top so much! The fit is fabulous and I love it paired with this skirt. Both fabrics are remnants from other projects, the coral cotton jersey from Girl Charlee and the  striped rayon jersey from Hancock fabrics.

This is the Mama Chloe skirt from Made for Mermaids made in Liverpool knit from Sincerely Rylee. This pattern is free if you join their Facebook group. This was my first time using liverpool knit, and I have to say I rather enjoyed sewing with it, great stretch but sturdy enough that it doesn’t shift while working with it, and it also presses well.

And lastly, the Union St. tee by Hey June Patterns. How could I possibly sew wardrobe staples without this basic wardrobe builder right? The Union St. tee was one of the first PDF patterns that I purchased for myself back before I was testing patterns. I have made several Union St tees before some of which are in bad shape now but still very much in circulation 🙂 but this is my first time sewing the V neck.

Adrianna’s instructions for getting that V neck are impeccable! My  husband was quite impressed with the finish on this top. I made a size XS and shortened the length by 1″ I chose not to do the XXS ’cause I wanted the tee to have a bit of ease! Needless to say I love it, and I’m quite happy with how that V neck turned out 🙂

I think I might have enough tops now 🙂 time to get some cardigans and joggers sewn up but before that, my next project is the Cheyenne tunic, which I hope to blog about soon! But until then, take a look at what the other bloggers have shared as part of the ‘Sew Long Summer’ Blog tour here:
