Have you started sewing and shopping for the holidays yet? I have a great holiday dress pattern to share with you today! It is from the Lil Luxe collection so fabulousness guaranteed!!!
The Saumur dress is a classic party dress with princess seams and puffed sleeves. What makes it stand out though is the combination of pleats and gathers in the skirt along with bow ties in the sides and the option to add piping or trim along the entire length of the dress.
The design of the Saumur dress provides so many options to play with color and trims in the bodice and skirt.
I used the same fabric for the entire dress – linen (joann fabrics) with black piping along the princess seams and velvet trim for the side ties. The sleeves are fully lined, though there’s an option to make it unlined as well.
The colors I picked were a bit hard to photograph, but it really is a beautiful dress with pleats in the center front and back and gathering in the sides with the bow ties 🙂
Clean finish with a fully lined bodice and an invisible zipper in the back really take the dress up a notch, and I love how the heavy linen sorta puffs it up!
It is not a quick sew pattern, planning and sewing the entire dress does take up a bit of time, but its a pattern you’ll be glad you tried ’cause the result is so beautiful. I can’t wait to try more fabric and trim combinations for this dress.

I have another exciting pattern test to share you guys today! Its another first for us too! A pinafore by Lil Luxe Collection!!!
The Pembridge Pinafore is a sweet vintage style Pinafore with elastic in the waist, and the option to have adjustable straps or a classic style button down back. It has beautiful seam finishes and a lovely fit.
I had picked another fabric for this pinafore but my little was quite firm in her choice of this mustardy yellow floral.
The construction for this pinafore is simple and quick, with beautiful seam finishes.
This is so perfect for summer! It was quite warm the day we took pictures, so she’s wearing the pinafore by itself but this would be so perfect layered over a white shirt in lace or eyelet.
I had to try this pattern to realize how adorable my little one looks in this vintage style pinafore dress!
For our final version, we chose a bottom weight denim fabric in animal print and LOVE the Pembridge Pinafore even more!!!
The lovely little top she’s wearing is the Jane top from Shwin Designs.
I love when patterns can be sewed up so quick and still look so put together! This whole outfit took me less than one naptime!
I love the Swallowtail pattern description on their website “This vintage inspired pattern is everything a girl could ask for: sweet, breezy and topped with a bow!” Absolutely true!!!
Oh but that bow! and that open back! sigh!! I love it so very much!
For the bodice, I used a loosely woven handloom fabric from Fine Fabrics Atlanta (They don’t have a website), it is so soft so perfect for this pattern, and I love how those ties drape over her back rather than stand out stiffly. And for the skirt, this denim jacquard from JoAnn fabrics.
Contrary to what I first thought, this pattern comes together rather quickly. And has two things that I’ve grown to really appreciate and look for, in sewing patterns: Extremely well drafted pattern pieces, and beautiful finishing techniques (even on the inside).
Right before we went for pictures, I was possessed by a need to make a top knot headband for her and I’ve never really made headbands and accessories lol! Since I was using woven fabric and didn’t want to fuss with elastic, I shirred about 5 inches of the headband with several rows of elastic thread in the center back.
Watching my little one in clothes that I made is truly gratifying, and that experience is even more rewarding when the pattern used is as well drafted and clearly explained as this one!
The swallowtail Top and Dress come in sizes 18m – 10y with options for a top, knee length dress or Maxi dress. With no need for zippers and buttonholes, its a great beginner’s pattern, not to mention quick-sew. It has beautiful feminine flutter sleeves that I totally left out for this dress 🙂
