Belinda Dress – The perfect Holiday Dress

The Belinda dress by Go To Patterns is a comfortable knit dress with puff sleeves, banded hem and a fun kangaroo pocket. This knit dress has so many cute features, one of which is the banded hem which makes the skirt look almost like a bubble skirt.

I made this one in a reversible knit from Joann and simply adore how it looks on my baby girl. Those puff sleeves and the bubble skirt are just too cute. I keep finding reasons to use reversible knit for all my projects, it doesn’t have as much stretch, it frays a lot and I lost a good amount of yardage after the first wash BUT it’s really soft and cozy.

Pockets are a newfound love for my daughter, she tries to find pockets in everything she wears. Since making this dress a couple weeks back, she’s used it quite a bit and every time she wears it, I feel like I have found the perfect jersey dress for her. Perfect for play dates, parks or grocery shopping!

I like the fitted bodice and where it hits her at her waist, and it’s a great basic pattern to play with. I thought it’d be fun to make a couple more Belinda Dresses for the holiday season.

This little jersey belinda was initially meant to be a tunic to be paired with leggings but towards the end, I couldn’t bear to leave out the banded hem, so it ended up being another dress. I figured, she can still wear leggings when it gets really cold or next year when she’s taller.

A few alterations I made to this pattern – Cut the sleeves at elbow length, folded the neck band towards the inside so the black only peeks a little bit. Then I added a little heart appliqué and a bow with a bead to dress it up a bit.

I followed This tutorial for the knit fabric flowers on her head band and the boots are from babies r us. She LOVES those boots.

I made yet another Belinda dress with quilted knit this time also from Joann.

The alterations I did were pleating the skirt instead of gathering, reducing the gathering at the sleeves and cutting longer sleeves without cuffs. Also, the skirt piece was cut 3 inches longer eliminating the banded hem. I love the quilted knit, it is really cozy, was perfect for this morning’s weather when we got out to take pictures.

The crocheted hat and boots are from babies r us and tights are from Target.

I thought it would be fun to try a different look changing up her accessories a bit. So here is one more picture before I end the post 🙂

I do have plans to make her a little coat with this pattern, I think it’d be really cute with all the gathers at the waist and a Peter Pan collar maybe? But that is another post for another day.
